Neil Thompson
Growing up in southern New Jersey, I was influenced by many godly people as a child, by the IVCF Urbana Missions conference and through an elective at Manorom Christian Hospital in Central Thailand while I was a medical student. After completing training in general surgery, I joined OMF, returned to Thailand in 1978 and served as a missionary surgeon at MCH from 1979 to 2001. My main objective was to provide high quality surgical care in a medical ministry designed to glorify God through ministry to body, soul and spirit. We worked and prayed to see patients and staff come to know Jesus and to form new churches. I was Hospital Director from 1998-2000.
In a vey unexpected turn of events, I was called to be the National Director of OMF International (US). I served as leader of our Stateside mobilization team from 2001-2010. My focus changed from providing medical care to mobilizing professionals to see God glorified through the establishing of indigenous, biblical church movements in East Asia.
In retirement I have embraced the role of OMF International Advocate for Medical Missions, blending my former ministries and striving to promote and raise the profile of medical missions worldwide in general and in East Asia in particular. This includes mobilizing, networking, coaching, mentoring, informing and encouraging young medical professionals who seek to serve in medical missions.
My wife Wannee and I have two sons, Nathan and Kevin.
