While at student at Oral Roberts University, I went with a summer missions team to Zaire (now Democratic Republic of the Congo). I worked at a place called IME (Institute of Medical Evangelism) with a missionary physician, Dr. Norman Abell. It was an amazing experience and I have always looked forward to the time where I could return and do medical missions. I will retire 12/30/2023 as an ER physician. I had a minor in French in college and have started to re-learn the language beginning about 4 - 5 years ago, anticipating that I will be able to use my language skills in Francophone Africa or other countries. My wife also served in missions in India while in college at ORU. She was an RN but is currently taking courses to get her license back.
